I have read almost every single thread about blurry text, and I’ve tried everything and still can’t figure it out.

I’m editing a title sequence in after effects. I have 18 second clip with text over it. I am trying to export the text as a quicktime, then place it on my time line in Final Cut. But when i import the file into Final Cut, it’s blurry as all hell. I’ve tried placing the clip on a dvd and watching it on a NTSC monitor, but still no progress, it just remains blurry. I’ve been stuck on this for about 3 weeks now and I need it done in a week Please if there is an advice or steps I’m either doing wrong or not including please help me out here, because at this point in time I’m desperate.

If this helps, here’s all my settings.

    My after effects composition settings:
    NTSC DV
    Width: 720 px
    Height: 480
    Lock Aspect Ratio 3:2 (1.50)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC (0.91)
    Frame Aspect Ratio: 15:11 )1.36)

My Export setting in After Effects thus far.
    DV/DVC PRO
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Quality: Highest
    Scan Mode: interlaced
    Aspect Ratio: 4:3

My Format in Final Cut Express:
    NTSC
    USE: DV-NTSC ANAMORPHIC

Please give me the easiest way to solve this problem=]

    Thanks so much,
    Kevin

    Kevin,

DV compression is hammering your nice AE title seq. In Final Cut Pro the advice would be simple, change the compressor in sequence settings and re-render, but you seem to be using Final Cut Express, and since it’s limited to editing DV that won’t work.

I am no expert in this especially NTSC anamorphic but
Don’t export the title sequence as a QT movie. Select your comp and add it to the render que.
Make sure you are rendering at full quality
In the render que you have the following settings

Render Settings : Best Settings (this is the default)
    Output Module: Lossless (default)
I have had my best luck not messing with the defaults (it will make a big file)

You can also try changing Lossless. When you look at the options I would choose custom. This will open a dialog window. You will see a Format Options button which will open a QT options box. I would choose Either Animation or Apple ProRess 422HQ.

It may make a huge file but it will output as a .mov
    Import that movie into FCP.

You will need to check with the experts here in this blog (which I feel like I am always doing – Thanks guys!) but I believe you really need your clip to match your sequence settings. If they don’t that may be were your blurriness becomes an issue.

I try to export from AE with the same settings that I use for my sequence.

The one thing I know from my last project using the “Export” feature in the AE is not as good or user friendly as the render que.

Again I am a TOTAL Beginner but I wanted to try and help you anyway.

    Goodluck!

If you’re actual sequence is not too long, perhaps you could consider exporting your video from Final Cut and finishing in AfterEffects?

In this case, I would suggest using a better setting in AfterEffects than DV. Even DVCPro50 would be better for effects/text rendering.
