I have a Decklink card. Do I need another, seperate audio card to use the VO tool?
Posted by Ian Dillon on October 19, 2008 at 12:51 amI have a Decklink video card. Do I need another, seperate audio card to use the VO tool? I can’t seem to get the Decklink to record in VO Tool mode.

October 19, 2008 at 4:22 amYou do not need any special card to run the V/O tool.
Your signal should go from your mike, through a preamplifier (you could use a camera, for instance) and then into the line input on the rear of your Mac.
If you connect the mike directly into the Mac, there won’t be a strong enough signal to register. This may be your problem.
It’s a great tool and I use it all the time for ADR and foley.

October 19, 2008 at 4:52 amYou might try sending a video signal to the video input. I don’t recall, but I was in a situation once where this helped. Any signal will work. Be interesting to see if it helps.

October 19, 2008 at 8:54 pmYou can also use the optical input on a Mac if your mixer has an optical out. I’ve found that to be better quality than line input.
