I just got given a drive with media i need for a doco
there’s a bit over 5TB of ProResLT – this is a big doco!
I already have 5-6TB of media on a properly (for me) formatted drive – MacOS Extended.
I’ll be accessing files off both drives.

will i be able to work with the new exFGAT drive?
what sort of problems might i expect?

ok – I’ve just spotted one: i can’t do a finder search on this drive. that’s already problem for me ☹

    thanks,
    nick

If it were me, I’d buy another drive, format it using MacOS Extended (journaled) for MacOS, and copy all the files from the exFAT-formatted drive over to the new drive and work from the new drive.

exFAT is more susceptible to corruption than MacOS Extended, and since it’s not journaled it’s also harder/impossible to recover files from a corrupted disk.

When I’m shooting video, I always format my SD cards to MacOS Extended rather than exFAT, unless I have to use a Windows machine to transfer and store files in the field.
