But it’s a good point. A lot of folks are holding on to QT7 for these capabilities and don’t realize QTX is more powerful in this regard. You can trim, extract, save portions, etc.

Just the other day I had an AVCHD clip from a client that I couldn’t do anything with. But I could open the individual clips in QTX. From there I just hit save on each one making them a .mov that FCP X could read and relink to. (It was originally a premiere project I converted)

Agree about “even more” QT 10 has no properties editor, a/v panel, etc. You’d need 3rd party apps for that stuff if you don’t have QT 7. However, QT has way more capable editing tools, which are likely what most people need. Kinda like FCP 7 vs X. 😉

I guess my point was many think all you can do is open a file and view it in QTX. When in fact you can edit (much better than 7), trim, and convert to mov. Much of what folks are still holding on to QT7 for. I haven’t had 7 on my system in 2 years and haven’t even had the slightest need for it. Can QT7 open the AVCHD files I was talking about? I don’t know. Just curious.

That was kind of why I made this. I had messed with it a little, but after the “dialog editing is really hard in fcp x” (it’s not) comments the other day I thought I’d see how it was in the QT player. lol Turns out It’s not bad, though scrubbing audio would be a welcome feature.

Actually, a “send to compressor” option in the share/export menu would also be a nice addition…

That’s true. FCP 7 and QT 7 Player had a lot of automation options which are missing with FCP X and QT X Player. These options had been often unknown or hard to figure out.
To create an export droplet for QT7 took the same time or less compared to creating a Compressor droplet.
Beside some some other nice features there was a TC display in QT7 Player, and you were able to copy paste TCs – but those were the times where tracks were used, which nobody wants back 😉

It may be a long wait. Like.. eternity. 🙂 All the “pro” export functions now require compressor. Again, a send to Compressor menu choice, or Compressor service would be nice. Send feedback, I have. 🙂
