    Hi,
I love the COW and have been here for years and years. Being away this year, I was looking for the COW’s NAB coverage. So far, I’ve seen none. Where is it?

Of course I have seen the 10,000 press releases, but you surely don’t call that “NAB news”? It’s a PR channel that forwards release from companies. Where are the daily reports from the show, podcasts, social media round-ups, and wide variety of exclusives that the email blast touted? I literally don’t see them.

The social media updates are on our social media channels, especially @CreativeCOW but also Facebook.

Ever since we launched in 2001, our focus has been on community-based coverage, though, so as far as we’re concerned, the most compelling NAB conversations have been in our forums. That is, we’re not a newsgathering enterprise, per se, we’re a community site. You can see conversations happening in forums all across the COW.

(That said, despite being one of the busiest NABs we’ve ever seen, it’s one of the quietest. It’s not a year of startling announcements. Rather, it’s one of the “growing muscle on the bone” years that are so important for the industry’s longterm health. As a result, not a ton of conversation anywhere on the web. Even social media channels — not just ours, but all of them — have been quieter than we’ve ever seen.)

As a small team primarily focused on keeping the community running smoothly for our 300,000 members and 1.7 million monthly visitors, we have also focused on reporting after the show, as the dust has settled, and we’ve had a chance to sort the difference between what’s novel, and what will still be worth talking about next month, next year, and beyond. And frankly, if it’s not worth talking about next week, then it definitely fails to make the cut.

That said, we’re editing and prepping a BUNCH podcasts, with some exceptional conversations. Look for those to be posted soon. Articles and wrap-ups aplenty too.

This includes the industry’s best wrap-up in the hands of longtime leader Bob Zelin. To give you an idea what to expect, here’s Bob’s post-show wrap up from 2015, NAB 2015 ZELINIZED: HD IS OVER.

So, the combination of being a small, community-focused team, and using the community’s insights to point us to the stories worth covering, has meant for the past 15 years, we’ve always saved our Grade A coverage for after the show. Always.

We’re gratified by your interest though, and assure you that (likewise) as always, it will be more than worth the wait.

    Regards,

Thanks! Those conclusions and impressions are indeed starting to float as I follow forums and talk to colleagues who attended. I’m looking forward to reading your reviews.
