What is happening is, I keep loosing my video, sort of.

when scrolling through a timeline, the video gets confused and even though I am parked on a frame at say 5 min in, the video is from perhaps 2 min in, or worse, a green frame.

If you then play, it flashes a series of frames, that do exist on the timeline, but not where I am playing.

Some times it is green or black frames.

SOON, FCP will close and tell me how sorry it is.

the media is XDcam 30fr variable, which I have been using for years with no such problem.

the temporary cure is to quit FCP before IT closes on me.

some times I restart the machine. this helps for 5-10 min before the problem comes back.

    Any thoughts??

you need to go into the render manager and delete the “constant frames”. That should sort out the problem.

I can’t remember exactly where the option is as I’m not in front of tcp now.

    thanks
It does seem to be related to “rendering” somehow.

When it goes “mad” and I jump frame by frame, i get a green frame, a black frame , a normal picture frame and then repeat.

I did throw out everything in the render folder, to start fresh.
    problem persists though.

The only new filter involved here is a NEAT, grain reducer.
these problems seem to have come, some time after applying this, but hard to be sure.

i have used this filter many times before, with no problem.

I’ve experienced a problem that sounds like what you’re describing, playback flickers just a couple still images from different parts of the timeline, repeatedly. Using Render Manager to delete the projects renders has fixed it for me.

When you deleted the render files, did you do it from FCP’s menu- Tools> Render Manager… Or delete from finder?

FWIW, I usually either wait until I’m done with the edit to apply NEAT, or apply & adjust it then turn it off while editing. Also I’ll generally avoid rendering at all until ready to export.

I’ve had something similar happen. Either changing the sequence to ProRes or transcoding to ProRes altogether ended up solving it.
