I CANT SYNC UP!!
Posted by Derek Nagle on March 12, 2008 at 2:32 pmhey
i recorded a play recently, on the cameras it was recorded 48khz and the audio from the desk was 44, (i did not know this at the time)
I CANT USE THE CAM AUDIO AS ITS NOT CLEAN
Now if i sync the desk stuff up (44khz) it becomes outta sync in a few mins, I tryed to convert the audio to 48khz like the video and the sequence settings, but when i import it it still becomes outta sync in a few seconds.
HOW CAN I CONVERT IT AS, I PROB DOIG IT WRONG

March 12, 2008 at 3:00 pmIf the camera and sound were running continuously, there’s an easy way to sync them up.
Put the video into the timeline, mark a sync point near the beginning (a loud footstep or door slam works great) with an IN mark.
At the end of the clip in the timeline, mark another sync point (another loud quick sound) with an OUT mark.
Now take your audio clip and open it in the viewer. Find the same sync point you used for the video in the timeline, and mark IN, find the other sync point in the audio and mark OUT.
Now drag that audio from the viewer to the canvas and drop it on “Fit to Fill”. Now audio should be in sync, having been speed changed to fit properly through the “Fit to Fill” function.
Drag out the ends of the audio in the timeline, to get the complete audio, and you should be in sync.

March 12, 2008 at 3:28 pmno i dont think i explained myself well, the audio wont sync
the cam video will sync,
but the master audio is recorded 44
and the video 48,
once i sync this audio up, its in sync for a few seconds then outta sync then.
i tried to convert the master audio to 48 but it says then its 44 when i import it into final cut

March 12, 2008 at 3:59 pmI think you explained yourself fine. I gave you a way to easily speed change the audio so that it does sync.
Okay, let’s start at the beginning. This problem master audio: within Final Cut Pro, select this audio in the browser, and then go under the Edit pull down menu, and select item properties, then format.
What are the properties of this master audio clip?

That’s a pretty cool tip. I gave you a 5-Cow rating for that post without testing it. I sure hope it works…

March 12, 2008 at 7:01 pmI figured that fit to fill trick working with film students, who originated in film, edited on telecine video, went to Protools and back, and finished a DAT out of Protools for film finish.
No matter how many times I explained it, there as always some pulldown mistake they had made, and for emergency screening purposes this did the trick.
