  • I cannot render Mpeg2 in V5.0d

The render stops at about 130 to 140Mb with an inderminate error.
I did a clean install of V5.0d a weeks ago and I am wondering if Mainconcept activation code has to be inputted but I can not find a way of checking whether this is the case. The AVI is fine because I am rendering it at the moment using V4.

Computers!! Don’t you just love them!!

If it is not asking to be registered, it should already be registered. If you have DVDA, it is automatically registered.

Thanks Edward. That is what I thought. This is my first render to MPEG2 since I upgraded to 5.0d with a clean install. Darn thing stops at around 140Mb. I tried on 2 or 3 different AVI files with same result. Fired up V4 and no problems rendering.

Make sure where your temp files are pointed to. You may be running out of disk space with the temp files. By default they are on drive C. Change all the file locations in both File – Properties and Options – Preferences.

Yes, temp files are directed to the video drive with plenty space. As I said, V4 is rendering to that drive at the moment, without any problems.
I cannot figure out what’s gone wrong – apart of clean install to 5.0b to 5.0d

I’ve been having the exact same problems…Here is a link to the Sony site that goes into more detail:

Have talked to Sony tech support & they are stumped – this problem only cropped up after installing 5d –

    Hi Yoyodyne
Interesting thread. There are 2 distinct differences between your problem and mine.
    1-I use win2k sp4 you use winXP
2-I was rendering to MPEG2 DV template you were rendering to m2t.

The common factor is vesion 5.0d.

I updated to 5.0d last month because of PTT problem
    see thread https://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=369385

    I can render to mpeg2 in V4.
Now do I go back to V5.0b or ditch V5 and return to V4 (and lose multicam overlay in Excaliber)?

I do not think V6 is not going to address these fundamental problems. But you never know. I think I shall wait another few days!!
but I shall wait a while before

Actually I’ve been having the same problem rendering to mpeg 2 as well. The Mainconcept encoder does both (m2t and mpeg 2)and it got horked up somehow. So far I know 3 people, myself included that are having this problem – it’s interesting but man, I got no solution….

I actually had a very nice conversation with Sony tech support – great guys and very helpful but they sure could not reproduce the issue. It seems like a little ghost in the machine – Hopefully Vegas 6 will fix this bugger – only 12 more days. Man I can’t wait!

    Good luck,

    Interesting.
My PTT problem surfaced when I went 5.0b and MPEG2 problem when I went 5.0d.
I wish I was an optimist like you.
The pessimist in me is waiting to see what else breaks with next version.

I am sitting here wondering whether I should go for V6 trial or sort out MPEG2 render problem with 5.0d

    Here’s what happens.
    Render as PAL DV template
Select CBR and render stops around 5000 frames with indeterminate error.

Select VBR and it behaves itself and renders.

As I ALWAYS use CBR, I had not noticed this.

Please please, someone tell me there is something simple that’s broke.
