I am now moderated?
Posted by Duplicateaccount Closed on August 30, 2008 at 3:50 amWhat is going on on this forum. I’ve been a member of the Cow for years and when I changed my address after a move, I was put on moderated status. This was a couple of months ago, so how long does this moderated status last?

You created a NEW account, and did not update your pre-existing one. Our mechanism looks at new and updated accounts in different ways.
That is why your account got thrown onto moderation, as we moderate all new accounts. Why? Because the new tactic by many spammers is to come into a site, create an account, make a post, get the account turned on and then they go ape across your forums. We had it happen a bunch of times in the last two years or so and so we do not now automatically turn on all new accounts right away. We watch the account to make sure that they are legitimate posts and what kind of posts a person makes. Then we activate it and take it off moderation.
But if you had wanted your account turned on quicker, it would have been a better idea to update your old account, not create a new one.
Best regards,

That would have required logging in, which I couldn’t. I use RoboKey for all my logins, but my previous login information didn’t work. I’ll admit that I was offline for a few months during and after the move. I tried find a contact email address on the Cow site to ask about restarting my old account, but it appears that you can’t contact the Cow without first logging in.We use the same policy on a yahoo group (Vx2K) where I am a moderator – first time members are moderated until they demonstrate their civility and sticking to the forum community. It’s reduced the spam to nearly zero.

There are multiple ways that you can contact any one of us directly without being logged in. Up in the upper right-hand corner of the interface is a Contact Us link.
I have moved your info from the new account to your old account and have deleted the profile info that you did not have in the new account (that was in the old account). This, in case you didn’t want the profile info anymore. So, the new Stephen Mann log-in is now really accessing the old Steve Mann account — though it is now updated to Stephen. I have also updated the email address accordingly to the new one you want to use.
Thanks for your understanding.
