So I’m tooling around with this idea. I archive a lot of my better spots and segments on a firewire drive….but every now and then I’m watching a tutorial at video copilot, or something at layers magazine, or read something here, while sitting on my couch with my laptop (Watching TV shows like Time Warp or Good Eats *shameless pandering for top notch suggestions from certain Cow contributors*), and I get inspired to try something using the ideas/techniques I’m seeing. Now rather than getting up, plugging in the drive and running the cable, getting everything all hooked up to tool around in AE of FCP, does anyone have suggestions on setting up a wireless storage solution, fast enough to run with these programs? Keep in mind, just has to be passable to mess around within AE and FCP to expand my skillset, not necessarily full-speed-blazing-throughput-that-impresses-the-client-and-makes-me-more-money fast.

no no no….I’m proposing being able to access MY footage via wireless on my laptop to play around WHILE watching TV….I usually get inspired after seeing something in a show, or when I’m multitasking and watching TV and reading/watching tutorials. This way I don’t have to get off my butt to hook up my external hard drive.
Essentially, would one of these be passable to edit with at home https://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=377

For what it’s worth, if I wanted to snag a TV show for my laptop, I’d get a TV tuner card and record it, or bittorrent it

    Dennis,

I use a MBP at work and can access any and all files off our server using the wireless link built in. I can find out what kind of box we’re hooked up to, but I’ll have to ask our IT guy who works off-site.

    Have a wonderful day.

Hey dude, that’s real sophisticated, but when someone calls you and punches in your extension, the company answering machine say’s it’s dialing ____________ (no name). Get those IT guys on the stick…
