June 6, 2005 at 8:12 pmHyperthreading is not officially supported for Xpress Pro HD (or any other Avid NLE software that I know of). It WILL run on computers that have hyperthreading enabled, but HT makes the Avid system unstable/unreliable…ESPECIALLY if you have DNA hardware hooked up to it.
Hopefully this will be resolved in near-future releases of Avid software.

June 6, 2005 at 8:40 pmActually, if you have a single CPU setup, Avid recommends using HT. It a slight affect on render times.
For dual Xeon systems, it should be disabled. -

June 7, 2005 at 2:06 pmWhere does it say that? I’ve never heard it said from anyone at Avid. Even the ACSR’s have told me to immediately disable it…even on a single-chip P4 w/hyperthreading. I’d appreciate a link to investigate this further.

[check the links inside the threads also].
FYI – Brian Williams is one of the Avid engineers.
I can confirm HT does benefit single CPU P4 systems. A very long cross dissolve would take me 22 seconds to render without HT and about 18.5 with it on.

June 7, 2005 at 7:09 pmOh yes, I’m very familiar with Mr. Williams…from what I’ve seen, he’s a great guy.
Thanks for the links. Interesting that I missed it on Avid’s forums. I’ll investigate further.
Thanks.
