Hybrid/Combo DVD/CD???
Posted by Vic on August 4, 2005 at 9:01 pmI’ve got a client looking to create a DVD that will also play normal audio if inserted in a CD player.
How can i do this?

August 5, 2005 at 12:25 amThis isn’t going to happen. CD players just simply cannot read DVDs. They may look similar but they are definitely not the same.

August 5, 2005 at 12:36 amI’ve heard of these. Don’t expect to find blanks at Wall-Mart or CompUSA. These disks are custom made to order by replicator houses. You have to give the replicator separate masters for the DVD & the CD sides. You’ll have to order at least one or two thousand, though.

August 5, 2005 at 3:38 pmIt’s almost impossible to adhere a CD and a DVD layer without making the resulting disc over-spec for thickness, so these discs might be problematic in some players.

August 5, 2005 at 4:01 pmIf your content is not very long (less than 10 minutes) you
might be able to do a Hybrid CD-Extra/CDVD.that is…a cd with redbook cd audio on one part and a rom
section with the VIDEO_TS dvd content on it.I’ve made them before, they only play on computers but the
cd audio would play in any cd player. -

August 5, 2005 at 5:26 pmThere is such thing called Dual Disc which is basically a CD on one side and a DVD on the other. https://www.dualdisc.com
