  • HVX200/P2 16:9 / 4:3???

Hey fast question. This camera is the one to get no doubt. I see you can switch 1080p down to 480i but is all of it in 16:9 or is it also switchable to 4:3 if your shooting DVCPRO 25 or 50 for a client who does not want letterboxed look on a 4:3 monitor?

    Thanks,

    -Lars

16:9 and 4:3 are available in the 480 modes. I suspect in the 720 and 1080 modes it is only 16:9 as they are native 16:9 formats.

    I guess that makes sence that 720 X 480 would automaticly be a 4:3 setting. else it sould be 720 x 405 for a 16:9

    Thanks

Not exactly the case. 16:9 in standard definition is still 720×480- the pixels are vertically compressed. This is called anamorphic 16:9. For a lot more info on how aspect ratios work, see this link:

Interesting, thanks again for the info. So is the new camera going to be true animorphic?

The new camera has native 16:9 chips in it, so yes it will produce proper anamorphic widescreen video in both SD and HD. Not optically anamorphic, but widescreen by the design of the chips (like all 16:9-native cameras do).
