I’m shooting a live satellite media tour (SD) and a series of tape packages (HD), both for Broadcast TV. Is the HVX200 resolute enough to pass muster in this environment? The media tour will use the composite output of the camera and the HD packages will be recorded in DVCProHD on an FS-100.

For satellite uplinks, I would prefer a cam with an SDI out.

ha- that greatly depends on which broadcaster we’re talking about.

The real question becomes, is quality of the HVX200, using composite out, acceptable as a sat source? (Don’t yet know if the truck takes SDI. When we spoke, they said composite.)

The first issue is that it doesn’t really lock (RCA), as Noah said, what do they expect? Don’t get me wrong, we still have one, and love it. But it’s still a prosumer camcorder, and in a live event setting you are going to be limited with a short lens, jumpy zoom control, etc.

The Panasonic HPX170 has an SDI out. That would be better choice than the 200.
