I can’t generate a response on these concerns I have.

Anybody with a production model, consider these tests if they have the appropriate hardware and software?

    Thanks:

    1. Downloading a p2 card from the camera using an iPod (firewire).

    2. Test Transfer of 4 Gb p2 cards to Apple Powerbook with a PC card slot – 15-inch or 17-inch.

    3. Utility of direct capture to FCP via firewire using a remote laptop.

    4. Whether the package includes a Macintosh reformatting utility for the p2 cards will in the cardbus slot.

I believe there is a windows formatter, not sure of a Mac one.

Any help would be appreciated. These are concerns I have for capturing long sessions with two 4 Gb p2 cards

    Thank you

[David Saraceno] “. Downloading a p2 card from the camera using an iPod (firewire).”
that would render the Ipod useless as a media player. a hard drive is better. it is also a very slow way to do it.
“Test Transfer of 4 Gb p2 cards to Apple Powerbook with a PC card slot – 15-inch or 17-inch. “ yes. insert card . wait for it to be recognized > import media ( goes to your capture scratch)
” Utility of direct capture to FCP via firewire using a remote laptop.” just like any other camera
    just more possibilities.
“Whether the package includes a Macintosh reformatting utility for the p2 cards will in the cardbus slot. “ the P2 cards need to be Fat32 and must be formatted by the camera. Your mac does read the cards just fine.

I’ve read of at least one person doing the “iPod” test with a firewire iPod. As Gary implies, the iPod harddrive is reformated so it doesn’t work as a media player. Not sure if it can be reformated back. For some I can imagine having a 60GB portable battery powered firewire drive might be worth the price of a firewire iPod. I’ve heard the transfer is no better, and may be slightly slower than real time.

I do know that you simply reformat the iPod to reassume its audio/video capabilities.

What I am concerned with however, is whether there is a Mac formatting utility that can reformat the drives in the computer

    There is one for Windows.

Using the camera to format means you have to stop shooting. Rather than just rotating the cards as you are shooting, this interrupts a long form shoot.

But formatting in the computer, such as what is provides for Windows users, is a better solution.

Gary, as you saying there is NO Mac utility, or that you don’t know?

And do you have a production model to confirm this?
