Correct. The tape records DV at 29.97. It does not record at 23.98fps. 24p is just a 24fps look recorded on tape at 29.97.

Capture and edit 29.97.

September 28, 2010 at 12:30 amthank you, so does that mean i have to run it trough compressor to make it 24p? if so what codec should i use.

September 28, 2010 at 12:42 amIt is 24p. It just isn’t 23.98. Why do you need it to be 23.98? What is your intended final output going to be?

September 28, 2010 at 1:41 amits intended for distribution, the reason i asked these questions is because i recently shot a documentary using a canon hv40, i shot at 24p but the actual footage was not 24p , but 24p interlaced with 60i so i had to run it trough compressor to de interlace it and make it true 24p, so my question is just leave it as is and import and cut at 29.97 or will this be a problem with the footage being interlaced? or should i just run it trough compressor and make it true 24?
thank you -

September 28, 2010 at 2:39 amIn Compressor you turn on Frame Control and set deinterlace to Reverse Telecine, But if your other footage is 29.97 you may just want to stick with 29.97 or do the Reverse Telecine on that footage also.
WIth the HVX in SD if you want true 24p (23.98) you need to shoot it on 24pA and then remove the advanced pulldown on capture.
If you are going out to the web or to DVD this is what you want to do.

November 30, 2012 at 12:57 amDave, I have to ask… Why do you always have to make things more complicated for people struggling to grasp a concept, much less be patronizing and belittling about it?
