HVX tape, P2, or Firestore
Don’t everyone tell me how stupid I am at once, I’m new to running the entire show myself. I’m shooting a short this weekend on two HVX200s. Yes, I have a four year old camera. When I get better, I’ll get a better camera. So I have P2 cards and 100 GB Firestores for each camera. My question is, would you run the Firestore and the P2 cards and the tape as a super super back up plan for footage? I think I read that if the firestore cable comes out, you’ll lose the files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing wrong with that camera, it’s still a great camera today.
Now, Recording to tape is ONLY SD. So, if you want HD, tape is not an option.
Firestore is NOT as reliable as P2. If you have enough cards, I’d run P2 cards only. If you don’t have enough cards, use the Firestore.

If you don’t have enough cards. Rent them. Still more reliable than the Firestore. Another reason why the Firestore is discontinued.

Can you shoot P2 and tape at the same time on the HVX200? I didn’t think that was possible, even if shooting just HD. I used a Firestore at a TV station I once worked at and I don’t think you could use it and P2 at the same time. If I remember correctly, there was a menu setting to feed the Firestore that disabled or bypassed P2. But my memory is hazy on a lot of things, maybe this too. Never did like using the Firestore, but all we had were 8 gig cards. I use 64 gig cards now in my HVX200 and never worry about it.

Can’t record to P2 and Tape at the same time. Tape on HVX-200 is DV only.

I’ll add another voice of dissent against the Firestore. Pain in the ass, unreliable. Yeah, discontinued for a reason. P2 cards are your best bet.
