    Hey Everyone!

I’m shooting some abstract light art with an HVX, and I’m having tremendously high noise levels in the darker areas of the image.

Can anyone give me some pointers on settings to minimize the noise?

    I’m shooting 720P @ 60FPS recording to a Firestore FS-100 via DVCPRO HD

    thx!

The camera does have noise that you just learn to live with.

My suggestions to try to minimize it:

    – Overexpose a little. Noise gets really bad if it is underexposed.
    – Don’t boost the gain
    – Be aware of it on set while you can control it.

Other people might be able to add to my list.

As Russell already said, Gain is the worst offender here. Make sure it is not only set to zero but that auto gain control is also disabled. Auto gain can make it look like you’re shooting in a sand storm but it’s not that noticeable in the little viewfinder.

    Hey everyone!

is MXF better than QT? Is there less compression and is it necessary to back it up for any purpose or rather, is backing up the QTs instead of the MXF hierarchies sufficient??

    Thank you very much,

    Derek
