HVX for under $5000?
Posted by Matt Short on December 7, 2007 at 3:42 pmAnyone know a ‘reputable’ dealer who has an HVX200 at or under $5000? My company has a per item spending limit on my company card of $5000. I’ve seen a few HVXs for under $4000 but I’m a bit skeptical of such a discount for a NIB HVX at that price.

December 7, 2007 at 5:40 pmAnything under $5000.00 is usually grey market and likely has no warranty other than a Mac or Repairtech private warranty.
Keep in mind any HVX200 purchased from an authorized panasonic dealer also includes a 16GB P2 card free! So in reality they are about $5000.00 or less now when you consider the value of the P2 card.
The current B&H price is $5195.00 and they are authorized dealers I’m sure. According to the Panasonic promo anything purchased now will include the 16Gb card in the box but I would check with B&H or where ever you buy from to confirm.

December 7, 2007 at 5:50 pmOkay, here’s something new that you should keep in mind: Panasonic dealers now have a Minimum Advertised Price they have to comply with. (not sell at, but advertise at). That means that if you see any dealer advertising any price less than $5299, that dealer is *not* an authorized dealer!
(the exception for some reason is B&H, which is still advertising 5199).
Gray-market dealers will not have the free 16GB card or the free HVX Book in the box. Authorized dealers will. So if you see any advertised price for less than $5299, just forget it.
That doesn’t mean the dealers have to *charge* $5299, but it does mean that they can’t advertise less than $5299. Normally how they get around it is to say something like “price too low to advertise” or whatever.
I believe people were saying that Samy’s had HVX200s on the show floor at DV Expo for $4700. That would be a special show-type thing, but you might call ’em and see what their regular selling price is.
But if you see a price advertised for less than $5299, forget it — it’s not legit; no authorized dealer is allowed to *advertise* it at less than $5299. (again, B&H for some reason is, but I imagine that’ll be sorted out shortly.)

December 7, 2007 at 9:31 pmMatt,
Talk with Jason. Tell him Nate sent ya. Jason got 6 HVX200’s at your price with P2 card.
With Jennifer’s, Pansonic Leasing, three year financing my monthly is less than $160/month.
At $160 per month, everybody should call Jason and Jennifer.. That is less per month than a half day billings.. A real no-brainer. But call quick Jason only had 6. I am getting one. I should get 2. 614-848-5222..
Yes, I know it is a shamless plug… But they are great folks and with a little luck the 200 will be a great b-camera to a new 500…

December 10, 2007 at 5:46 amIt’s a scam. A “sales rep” calls back claiming it doesn’t include the lens or other “options” such as a power supply, etc. and that you need to buy those. Then they never ship the product to you and then they sell you credit card number. check them out on the BBB. They are being investigated for Fraud and improper advertising practices.

December 10, 2007 at 8:19 pmHey Barry –
I just bought an HVX200 in the middle of November, and didn’t hearing anything about a free 16GB P2 card. Any ideas how I might get one of those even after I bought the camera?
Thanks

The card comes in the box, as of December. I don’t know if there’s any manner of price protection for anyone who bought recently; perhaps if you ask your dealer maybe they have some program in place? I don’t know.
