I have a two week, remote location project coming up. I want to shoot it in HD. The 200 could be a great camera for this, but I dont think P2 cards will work considering the amount of footage I will be shooting. My idea is to shoot to a Firestore and then off load it to a Mac with an external hardrive at night. Is this feasible? How reliable is the Firestore? Has anyone shot this way in HD for a extended project? Another option is to shoot it on a HDV camera and DV tape, but I have heard that editing is difficult and most cable and networks wont accept programs shot in HDV.

    Hi,

The Firestore and HVX combo whould be fine. Just make sure that you organize the clips as P2 before you transfer off the dire, That is an actual step that you have to make in the menus of the Firestore, and then transfer to another hard drive. Only after you have transferred the Contents folder should you try and import that footage to FCP. Maintain your Contents folder/MXF files as these are the MASTER footage.

    Hope that helps,

Jan, would the above workflow succeed if the laptop is a PC, and the editing system is FCP? If this does work, then my only reservation before purchase is the ability to pull off smooth (no bumps) slow zooms & focus. [other threads out on that topic now] Haven’t found a unit to rent in Atlanta.
