I’m trying to record directly to my PC using Premiere Pro CS3. The problem is that when I connect the camera and go to Premiere’s capture window, I get the message “Can’t Activate Recorder. Try Resetting Camera.”

I’ve updated the HVX firmware to the latest version. I’ve updated Premiere with the latest patch (version 3.2), and I’ve tried this on two different PCs. However, if I flip the switch from P2 to tape, I can record to Premiere, and I don’t have problems transferring from tape. Is there some setting on the camera or in Premiere that I’m missing?

Also, I am using a 720P project in Premiere, and I have tried putting the camera both in 720P and 720PN modes.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

720PN will never work, firewire does not support PN.

I don’t have Premiere but one thing I would ask is, does PP CS3 come with the DVCProHD codecs? When you do to tape record mode you are going to standard DV so that would explain why it would work where as 720p is DVCProHD, I know on the Mac you have to have FCP installed to get the codec.

    Yep, it’s got the codecs.
