HVX-200 field storage questions?
I run a small HD camera rental shop in the Washington DC area. I’ve ordered 3 of the HVX camera’s (sight unseen) in anticipation of the system being all I believe it will be. I’m told I will have at least (1) camera from the order in the first arriving batch being manufactured, which means we could have one in December a month away.
My question is- as a rental operation, clients will come with different storage requirements in the field, using different editing systems, work flows, etc. What do I need to purchase to prepare for the options clients will ask for?
On the Panasonic web sight they offer a portable hard drive (AJ-PCS060G) that suggest’s it only works with windows operating systems??? So Mac edit systems can’t use this drive? When I’ve asked Panasonic sales people these questions they seem mostly clueless, so I throw it out to you folks who know much more, and who will likely be users… how will you will be shooting, storing, transfering, and archiving these massive amounts of 1’s and 0’s? What have you purchased to prepare for the HVX’s arrival?
Do I need to have a 4-6-8-10 P2 cards with each camera available? Is there a portable hard drive (card reader) that will accept these P2 cards that IS Mac AND Windows compatable? There have been many post on different boards that theorize about these issue’s and more, but I need to be ready in about a month with solutions that work, and are (hopefully) bullet proof. If Jan could chime in, or anybody who knows what gear will work, particularly for a rental operation, I would much appreciate it. I understand some pieces like the firestore are coming, and I’m sure other solutions are also on the way, but what’s available currently to solve this real world question?
If you were renting this camera system, what would you expect a rental house to have available for storage and/or transfering material, keeping in mind the (potential) harsher realities of rentable gear? Also, Which part(s) in the process makes the most sense to be a rentable item, that you could be a customer for?
Thanks much for the input.
