I’m working with a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 running Mac OS v10.4.11 with 4.5 GB SDRAM, Final Cut Pro v6.0.2 and QT v7.4.1. I have a Sony HVR0M15U. I can capture dv – no problem. I can print to tape dv – no problem. Just tried – works so silky smooth. In the past (previous version of FCP) I’ve done the same with hdv – no problem – I have the tape to prove it. I can no longer capture hdv – can’t find timecode. I can no longer print to video – nothing but black. Should this work? If so is there somewhere I can get explicit settings for FCP and the HVR-M15U to make this work. I changed settings on FCP and the deck so many times I’m feeling light-headed. DV – so easy. HDV – can’t make it work. Thanks.

Ensure the deck is set to HDV on the Firewire output, not being downconverted to DV.

Ensure that FCP is set to the correct HDV setting that matches the tape format.

It works here, though we very rarely capture HDV. We generally just control that deck via Firewire and capture to DVCPro HD or ProRes through the Component outputs.

When you say “Ensure that FCP is set to the correct HDV setting that matches the tape format” I assume we’re talking HDC1080i60. Correct?

OK – I got it. This post on the Apple site was very helpful:

Quit FCP. Power down the computer. Set the HVRM15U settings to HDV and the i.Link Set to “off.” Power up and start FCP. Close any open projects. Select Easy Setup Format: HDV, Use: 1080i60. Works beautifully on capture and print to video.

    Case closed. Thanks.
