HV20 why 1440×1080?
I am doing a project where I am using a Canon T2i as A cam and HV20 as B Cam. After removing pulldown from the HV20 I am left with 1440z1080 23.98 clip.
I use FCP and My work-flow is to capture HV20 24p footage with DVHSCAP… covert M2T file with MPEGStream to MPEG and ProRes. I import MPEG into Compressor and use Apple ProRes for Progressive material High Quality. Frame control is on and deinterlace is set to Reverse Telecine. When I import into FCP I get a 1440×1080 resolution. Why not the 1920×1080? Or does the HV20 not shoot 1920×1080 in 24p?
I am concerned because my 24p footage from the canon is importing at 1920×1080

I’m not a Mac user, so can’t help you there. But 1440×1080 is HDV2 spec. The HV20 records in 1920×1080), but is sampled down to 1440*1080 when it records to tape. Then it’s sampled up to 1920×1080 when played back. Must be an issue in your capture settings somewhere.

When its played back from tape and transfered to a computer via firewire or HDMI its still 1440×1080 anamorphic, the only way you can get full 1920/1080 is to use the HV20 as a live camera head and capture via hdmi, or capture component, if you capture live cam via firewire you get 1440×1080 -
I have not detected any difference in quality , in fact combining Canon EOS 5D Mark II 1920×1080 p clips in Premiere Pro and Export to Tape looks identical.

Incidentally we have used the Canon Hv 20 for three years for broadcast quality high definition clips, the 5D Mark II mov clips at 1920 x 1080 are great but, there is little between the two.Even Canon says you can use this HV20 as a vtr for clips from their XL H1, XH G1 or XHA 1(both 50i and25 F mode)Quote Canon manual 0067W579 Pub DIE-281 0207N10-3, we Export to Tape only with minor copies dowgraded to DVD but, even that using the Adobe Media Encoder Cineform avi looks more than acceptable.
