I use a variety of systems including Windows Media Player, AVS and when posted to the internet Audioboo.

Angelo seems on the right track – check your playback system to make sure that the gain settings for other sources are either off or turned way down. It may not be in the track at all. Take a look in the track waveform in Audition in “silent” areas. Is there a waveform still there? If so, it’s in your track, and you’ll need to sample and remove the Noise Floor to get rid of it.

Here is what I want you to do:

Look at your original file in Audition in the spectral mode. Do you see a line going across the file in the higher frequencies or a heavy wash of energy in the higher frequencies? This is what hum/buzz would look like.

Look at your exported file in spectral analysis, does it have any hum or buzz in this view?

What is the file in terms of sampling? 48kHz 24bit? Lets say your sound card is set to play back 44.1kHz natively. Audition will process playback to match your sound card. These other audio programs probably aren’t so they’re relying on the resampling of the sound card. You may be listening to artifacts created by your sound card.

Hi Angelo and Joe,
Thanks for your thoughts I have looked at the files in spectral mode but can see noting that would cause a problem. I think that you could be right about sound card being the issue. However, since I am working on a portable I do not suppose that I can do much about that.
