  • Hum added on Export

    Good Evening All –

Am helping with a class at a local college. Student has sequence on FCP and audio sounds fine. On export to a Quicktime, intended to take into compressor, all the field recordings have a nasty hum on them.

The hum is NOT in the sequence.

    Thanks
    Mark

what happens if you just do a Send To compressor instead of exporting first?

Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.

Discovered with some more troubleshooting that the hum IS there in the sequence, but only if you monitor through the computer speakers. The student was monitoring through the firewire device (a DVPro deck) and there doesn’t seem to be the hum there.

I’m having problems with Compressor. Can’t export directly to it, we get a write privileges error. Have to export a quicktime with ‘current settings’ and then take that into Compressor.

    Is this an external drive?
You may have to rebuild permissions, or unlock it and allow all users to have read/write status

[Mark Myers] “Discovered with some more troubleshooting that the hum IS there in the sequence, but only if you monitor through the computer speakers.”

Does other audio hum through those speakers? Does the QT export hum on other systems? If you import the QT back into FCP and play it out over the FW connection, is there a hum?

IOW, maybe the computer speakers hum, not the QT or the FCP timeline.
