Hi everyone. I’ve been working in AE for 10+ years but I’m having some trouble with render times on a comp I’ve inherited from someone else. It’s a series of pre-comps, lined up in Z-Space, with a lot of Depth Of Field on the camera. There’s a shot of talent, green screened, in the bg at the start which is 8K RED, but this only lasts for the first 50 frames or so. There’s a particular system generated by Stardust in the background throughout.

When I render out as a TIFF sequence, I can see my CPU is hitting about 25% utilisation and nothing on the GPU.

The only workaround I’ve come up with so far is using BG Render to launch multiple processes, but this can be fairly hit and miss – sometimes it fails to render certain frame ranges, other times there can be random glitches.

I’m using a 16-Core 2019 Mac Pro with 176GB RAM as well as an internal SSD RAID for my media. I can’t imagine the hardware is the problem…

Any thoughts would be gratefully received!
