I am impressed with the new Panasonic HPX500, but I swear I read somewhere that 720 files won’t transfer cleanly into FCP 5.

I am now using DVCpro50 codec to edit with (through an Aja IO from Betacam). But does anyone know if I got the HPX500, could I shoot at 720, 4:3 with the DVCpro50 setting and import clips as easily as they showed at NAB? (Of course, I think they were importing HD 16:9).

Basically, I guess I’m asking if this camera will be compatible with FCP 5?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill

The camera shoots compatible formats with FCP.. lots of them in fact. It will be compatible with FCP 6 too I’d guess. They’ve not dropped all those codecs, ya know? FCP edits any native format Panny makes.

720 cannot be recorded in DV 50. DV50 is a standard def codec, & 720 is High def and 16X9 naitive. That said, if you shoot in 24PN mode, your 720 files will be about the same size as DV50 files.
