  • HPX3000 – no 720?

I just went through the brochure and was happy to see 24pN/30pN on the 1080 side, but then noticed no 720 settings whatsoever.

Is this a limitation of having the native 1920×1080 chipset (I noticed they have 480 settings as well for it) or is Panny protecting/carving it’s line/niche for the yet to be seen P2 Varicam (08?)?

The 500 does it all, including over-under cranking, but has the smaller front-end chipset. The 2000 does 480/720/1080 (bigger native chipset), but no under/over cranking.

The 3000 won’t do 720(?). There is always a devil in the details. For $50k, I’d like to see it do what it can.

Just wondering. Technical – Marketing – both?

From my understanding it’s because the HPX3000 is an interlaced chipset. All their other cameras are using progressive-only chipsets, so 720/60p is easily possible from a progressive chip. But the HPX3000 is, I believe, an interlaced chipset, so no 720p mode.
