How do you do slow motion with the HPX3000? Is the resolution using AVC-Intra 100 so high that good quality slow motion could be created in Final Cut Pro?

No matter have much resolution FCP has to work with, slow-mo will suck. In fact the better the footage the more the sucking will stand out.

The new version of Motion has the Shake render engine and can do some good slow-mo but it will take a lot of render time.

May want to take a look at the user manual to see how to use the camera. (not trying to be mean but that is really a “read the manual”)

There is no in camera slow motion with a HPX 3000. That is more of a 720p tool, the 3000 has a 1080 imager where as the 2100 and HVX 200/202 use a 720 imager and scale up to deal with 1080. What you loose in 3000 with slow motion you gain with resolution and a damn fine looking camera out of the box.
Re creating slow motion from that footage, FCP does not come equipped to do this well. There are some good plug ins that re create frames in between the ones that were shot. I have found this actually works well on interlaced footage, a bit less so with progressive, but still good. Render heavy though.

Thanks Michael. I don’t have the camera yet (thus no manual) and am evaluating it for possible purchase for my new studio in Florida. I’ll be hooking up three cameras to a switcher and Orad HD virtual studio system. I have three Reds reserved but have to pick another camera instead because the Red doesn’t offer an output for external recording, and likely won’t in the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the info. Matthew. A salesman told me that something had changed or been added to Final Cut Pro/Studio to make slow motion better than before — maybe it was a plug in.
