HPX 170 Frame and audio different

Does the audio stop in the Log & Transfer window, or after you have the file transferred to your computer? Audio doesn’t have a frame rate. Frame rate only matters when you’re running dual-system with timecode. It sounds like something else is going on. If you’ve gotten the audio to FCP, what sample rate does it report? What kind of drives are you using and how are they formatted?

Thanks for the reply, John.
The audio plays in full in the camera from the p2 cards and it is in sync. It stops in the L&T window after a couple of seconds, along with the video stuttering, every place on the clip. The video plays on the timeline but the audio stops, even the waves flat line after about 5 sec. I can’t get the audio to import to FCP at all.

Have you trashed FCP prefs and repaired permissions? If not, try that.

Try to turn off the ‘remove duplicaet frames’ option in the Log and Transfer prefs (it looks like a little gear). Then retransfer the footage.

That did the trick. Wow, what a hassle. and a tough little preference to find. The switch to 30p from 24p at the last second really took me for a loop. LESSON LEARNED, don’t shoot 30p or 30pn in scene f5 or f6. I got no audio at all in 30pn and rough results in 30p. It almost cost me job and all future jobs from them. I now have been telling everyone, so they don’t repeat my mistake. The 170 should not let you shoot, or at least give priority to one setting or the other under those circumstances.

No, this isn’t the problem. The problem is that your frame rate wasn’t set to default. If it is set to default, the proper frame rate will get chosen when switching pN modes. FOr instance, 24pN would shoot 24pN movies with audio, then switching to 30pN, the camera would shoot 30pN movies with audio.

If you left the frame rate set to 24, then when switching to 30pN mode, your frame rate would still be set for 24 and the camera would then under-crank (just like you told it to). Keep your frame rate setting to default when using pN modes and you don’t want to shoot off-speed.
