HP Workstation
Posted by Roger Bansemer on October 11, 2016 at 10:51 amI’m filming using some 4K now and am anxious to upgrade my system to better handle it.
Any model recommendations for an HP workstation?
Thanks

October 13, 2016 at 9:11 pmHi Roger,
Bought a few months ago:
HP Z640, 2 * Xeon E5-2620v4, Z Turbo Drive Z G2 512GB, 64GB, Quadro M4000 8GB, W10 Pro (64).
I’m using Vegas Pro 13(453)The machine works really fine, but I was hoping for a more real VP14. Not a 13.1 as offered now.
I’m using full HD (Panasonic HDC-HS700) and 4k (DJI Phantom 3 Pro).
Separatly working perfect in VP13. Together on the timeline, a little bit slower, but with proxies OK.Hopes it helps you a bit.

October 14, 2016 at 1:45 pmHi Peter,
Thanks for this information. I’ll check it out but I’m so unfamiliar with all the nomenclature it’s all a bit unclear.
Is your computer a 10 core, 12 core processor? What is the processor.
Thanks

October 16, 2016 at 11:22 amHi Roger,
Because I read in several places that the number of cores (threads) is important in video-editing I build my pc with two processors (E5-2620 is 8 cores, 16 threads).
So I got 16 cores (32 threads). I know it’s luxury (I’m a private user), but it’s my hobby. You can build your machine with the specs you want on a HP retailersite (workstation configurator).

October 16, 2016 at 8:43 pmGood information.
With this and other info that has been posted I’ve decided to have a local shop build my system as I already have a video card, and a few other items that can be used and upgraded.

As far as I can see it, it uses all the threads and the memory (within the limits of VP13 (16 threads and 32Gb memory))
