HP i7 config + Decklink Studio
Hello all,
I’m about to get a Blackmagic Decklink Studio. However I don’t have the budget for the type of machines they’re recommending on their website.
I’m planning to get the best i7-based machine from HP but I need to be sure it will be compatible. The config I’m looking at is the HP Pavilion Elite 9280t. Here it is below:
Operating system Genuine Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-950 processor [3.00GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]
Memory 9GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [5 DIMMs] from 8GB
Hard drive 2TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s – two 1TB hard drives
Graphics card 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4850 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]

Has anyone tested a Decklink Studio on a HP e9280t with success? That would be the ideal solution. If not, would you be able to recommend an i7-based motherboard that is guaranteed to work with the Decklink Studio.
Finally, does the machine detailed above look powerful enough to capture, play and edit HD at full res?

I use an i7 mainboard with the PCIe Extreme edition its the GA-EX58 UD4P but the UD5 also works with it for sure. The Asus P67 will also work, I can confirm it.
Stay away from the P55\socket 1156 platform. X58 is the way to go. Ironically intel’s own DX58SO mainboard is having problems with Decklink cards. Who knows maybe a bios or PCIe spec issue.

Thanks for your reply. When you say ‘Extreme edition’ do you mean the 2K card? Cause on their website I can only see either the Decklink Studio or the HD extreme which is a PCI 4x card.
Also if I’m not using HP, would you know a reliable online company where I could configure my new machine and have it shipped?

Yeah that card, although mine is a late 2008 previous model but it is a PCIe x4 card like the new one.
As for the HP system, it looks like it is on spec and ready for your card. Maybe you should contact Blackmagic or maybe HP for 100% assurance ’cause you never know.

Thanks. I already called HP and Blackmagic and none of them can tell me for sure, which is a bit of a problem. I’ve also looked on the web for a while but haven’t found more info either. Thanks for the help.

I’m getting ready to buy a very similar system. Wondering if this ever worked out for you with the Blackmagic card?
