Hi. I’m new to the forum and video editing in general. I was looking for a pc that was compatible with cs5 for a good price and I found the HP elite models. I particularly like the 180t. Do you think this will work?

Here’s the website link to customize…

    https://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto.do

    Here’s what I picked…

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Included
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-930 quad-core [2.8GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]
    12GB DDR3-1066MHz SDRAM [6 DIMMs]
FREE UPGRADE! 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive from 640GB Included
1.8GB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260 ***I know it’s not the right card but will it work?
    HP 2159m 21.5-inch 16:9 Full HD Widescreen

It ends up being about 1,500 with my student discount. Any advice is appreciated.

According to NVIDIA specs it has CUDA engine.. so it should be fine.
However the question is with single drive how will you get sustained data? So unless you are planning to upgrade to RAID you may not see real time playback and fluid editing experience even for HDV/DV.
At least I would get a second sata drive for DATA.
I would get 1.5TB/WD RE4 drive… so in case if you want to upgrade RAID0 or 5 later on, you will be able to use it. It has almost same performance as 10K drive.

Thanks for the quick response. Here are the options they have for a hard drive. The first one is free. All the rest cost consecutively more as you go up…

    1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive from 640GB
    1TB RAID 0 (2 x 500GB SATA HDDs) – performance

    500GB RAID 1 (2 x 500GB SATA HDDs) – data security
    1.5TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
    2TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s – two 1TB hard drives
    3TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s – two 1.5TB hard drives

    The one that you mentioned…

would get 1.5TB/WD RE4 drive… so in case if you want to upgrade RAID0 or 5 later on, you will be able to use it. It has almost same performance as 10K drive.) Is this a separate drive or internal. Sorry if I’m a bit naive. I know nothing about computers.
