  • How would you relink multitrack audio record

Posted by Darren Laberee on July 5, 2005 at 10:34 pm

We are cutting a series for a Gospel Show recorded up to 12 audio tracks wide. I would like to cut with a mono guide track mix (matching code, supplied by recordist) and when the show is cut, i would like to re assemble using the 12 audio tracks, suppliying the whole thing as an OMF to mix.

Normally, we’ve done this process successfully, but by hand. I supply an OMF or EDL, that we match back the numbers against the original audio. It’s slow and cludgey, not to mention prone to error.

We’d like to not do this any more.

Any thoughts on a work flow that we can get running before the shooting starts. Or for that matter any ideas at all.

    Thanx in advance

    Darren,

If the mono track is matched code to the 12 tracks it shoudl not be that big a deal. You can get the first eight tracks in teh embeeded SDI and just drop the 8 tracks below the mono track, turn on you waveforms and line them up.

Do the same for the 4 additional tracks on a different path.

You could also creat twelve tracks with the mono track. Capture the matched code 12 track master and then manually relink the “good” tracks to your sequence.

The KEY is absolute matched code guide track.

The other optionis to grab the twelve track masters and hand sync each song by lining up the waveforms. If you are coming off dat you can use machine contol and the SPDIF port on the mac if your capture card does not support this many tracks.

Thanx for the fast reply David

The mono track will be matched code to the 12 tracks, the problem is we are taking footage from HDV and audio to be joined up later.
I’d like to avoid having to cut and move all the audio. I was hoping to find an automatic relink back to the multitrack after the cut is approved.

PS 1:45 in the morning, dude, get some rest 😉
