  • How would I do a key with separate alpha channel?

Posted by Bill Thomas on December 5, 2013 at 9:07 pm

    Hi all,

Here’s the graphic I want to use and it comes with a separate alpha channel.

    https://tinyurl.com/m7h4e7d

How would I put them in a timeline so that I can have an object inside when it opens up? I’ve tried every option of track keys, luma keys, etc and haven’t figured it out.

Or is this something I would have to do in after effects? Or worst case 3D Studio ?

Any help and step by step instructions would be GREATLY appreciated!!

looks like you would use something like a “track matte” setting.

The second half of that movie is meant to be used as a luma track matte on the object you wish to reveal. Your stacking order would look like this:

V3 Second half of animation (grayscale matte)
V2 Object you wish to reveal
V1 First half of animation (color)

Align the end of the matte clip on V3 with the end of the matte clip on V1. Add the “Track Matte Key” effect to the clip on V2, then set its matte to Video 3, Composite Using to Matte Luma, and check the reverse box.

    I am guessing.
V1 first half of red box
    V2 object
V3 second half of box with Track Matte effect set to V4 and Matte Alpha
    V4 mask.

    Hi all,

I tried both of these and neither one does it!

Maybe I should have mentioned that I’m still on CS5? Although I would think a matte is a matte, right?

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks again!
