Could you do it using cc cylinder? Sandwich render it with the front and back of the cylinder?

It would probably look hokey. I’d go with Dave’s method or do it in a 3d application.

You might want to Google for Brian Maffitt’s tutorial “what the HELIX going on here?”. It might give you some CC Cylinder ideas.

Yes, it may be hokey, but for non-hokey, yes, a 3D app would be best.
