  • How to view/import “shot marks” from Canon C70 in Premiere?

    Hey ya’ll,

I’ve searched high and low for an answer to my question, but no luck, so here goes: How can I view the “shot marks” that I’ve added to a clip using the “add shot mark” function, while recording with a Canon cinema series camera (in my case the C70) once I’ve imported said clips into Premiere Pro?

This seems like a very useful tool in the camera, but isn’t worth much if I can’t view the shot marks I’ve made once I’m ready to edit.

I was hoping they’d either translate as timeline markers embedded in the clips, or I could view them in the metadata and import them somehow, but I’m not seeing it upon import and can’t figure this out. Any insights would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Shot markers from cameras such as the C70 are not supported by Premiere Pro. Still, there is a way out.

Shot marks can be viewed and managed using the Canon XF Utility programme. Export XML or CSV files with the shot mark data after importing your video into XF Utility. These files will be imported into Premiere Pro, and using the shot mark information, you can just manually add markers to the timeline.

Some third-party solutions, such as “Markers Import” or “Sync-N-Link X”, offer additional capability.
