  How to use the rectangular grid tool in conjunction with text. ( so i can break my text apart)

  Dang I cannot figure out how to do this. I am more familiar with after effects and photoshop… So I want to be able to take a text and use the grid tool to split my text into 20 boxes that can be broken apart..like legos…I will then animate it in after effects…but i cant get the pieces to seperate…i tried using the shape builder too but cant figure out how to do what im trying to do.
