  • How to use the project back up file

Posted by Neil Sinclair on December 4, 2012 at 9:49 pm

I’m wondering how to use the backup file of the project effectively.

I had a project that was corrupted after a crash on X. The timeline came back
with repeated clips and missing graphics and little relation to the timeline before the crash.

As FCPX didn’t recognise the fact that the project had been altered, it didn’t offer the option to restore from back up. Attempts to open the backups get the ‘must be opened within FCPX’ response.
I had to use textedit to alter the currentVersion.fcpproject and force FCPX
to use the back up. Easier way surely??

    Using 10.8.2 & 10.0.6

Move it into the project folder in the place of currentversion.

    All the best,

    Tom

Thanks Tom. Initially tried that but it created a folder in the Project Library with the project name
but no project. To restore it fully I found if you close FCP X, rename the Back up as CurrentVersion.fcppro
and reopen then it worked OK.

FWIW, I strongly recommend Pro Versioner from Digital Rebellion. It seems to me as essential as Event Manager X. You will sleep more soundly.

    Hi Neil,

I’m afraid your advice on manually changing the name of the backup file to CurrentVersion seems to have corrupted my project… This is rather scary and if there is anyone out there who knows how to restore corrupted projects then please get in touch!!

    Best wishes,

    Michael
