Hi, I’m trying to create solid bars that fall in reaction to drum hits. So every hit of a drum creates a solid that drops from the top of a composition to the bottom. However, each drum hit will activate the bar drop but wont drive the speed of the drop from the top to the bottom. So if there is a fast melody – newly created bars will catch up to previously created bars at the bottom of the comp. I wish I could find a reference video but I cant. I saw this animation on a video game and wanted to recreate it. Im using a sound effector to control TP emission. I suck at xpresso. Does anyone know why its not working?

that’s one of the old Particle Emitters, those can’t be controlled by xpresso as well as TP can. You use some object (typically a null) to control where TP is in the scene but after that it’s mostly xpresso. Take a look at some of the TP presets in the Content Browser. They can look pretty complex but it doesn’t actually need much to make it go. There are tutorials out there. Here’s a fairly simple example as well, based on the same sort of setup in the xpresso you had but with no objects (just to show the xpresso). Using Hair to show the particles (renders quickly).
