how to use pan and scan?
Posted by Milton Hockman on May 21, 2007 at 1:19 pmI was told pan and scan filter allows you to zoom in on image and not lose resolution. how do you achieve this? i used it and it is losing resolution.
thanks.

May 21, 2007 at 1:45 pmI believe you’re mistaking the Pan and Zoom effect with the Pan and Scan.
Pan and Scan is used to reformat 4:3 footage to fit 16:9 and vice versa, I think. I haven’t used it. If you’re blowing up footage, you will lose quality. Unfortunately there’s not CSI “zoom and enhance” feature in the real world.
Pan and Zoom is used for still images. It will allow you to zoom in on an image–say a 2000 x 1500 pixel image–without losing quality until you get to your screen size. Blow it up past that and you’ll your image will suffer. You might not notice it, though, depending on how far you zoom. Zoom a little, you won’t see it. Zoom a lot–say 200%, it will degrade a lot.

It’s located here…
https://www.stagetools.com/(Don’t use pan/zoom or pan/scan. They’re both heavilly flawed with clunky interfaces; and especially stay clear of offlining them on one system and onlining them on another – or trying to go between SD and HD. Crash! Stage Tools Moving Picture is soooo much better. And, it’s only a couple hundred bucks.

You may as well dive into After Effects. It can only increase your marketability and working on Avid software, it’s almost a must sooner or later.

the avid pan and zoom effect sucks.
