  • How to update Xyratex firmware XR1A to XR36?

Posted by Ron Reimers on March 13, 2014 at 3:30 pm

I have a mixture Seagate ES.2 drives with firmware XR1A and XR36. I would like to upgrade the XR1A to the newer XR36 firmware since I don’t want have both in the same Xyratex RS-1602 array.

Seagate and Xyratex have been of no help. The Seagate tech I talked to can’t find anything about these firmwares, and Xyratex doesn’t talk to end-users. And I can’t find the XR36 .lod file, if there is one, on Xyratex’s FTP site.

    Can anyone help?

I don’t think Xyratex shows it any longer on their web site. Support for all the RS-16xx boxes disappeared awhile ago.

But on their FTP site (ftp.xyratex.com), all the models are shown, and the RS-1602 is still listed as a “current product,” although I am not sure it is still being made. But I don’t see any firmware updates there.

It apparently is still being sold by retailers such as Coastline Micro and others:
    https://www.coastlinemicro.com/products/storage/JBOD-Fiber/xyratex-1602-F4.htm
But they only support them if you purchased it from them.
