The easiest way is to use a bend or wrap deformer to create the roll and then animate the deformer’s position to do the unroll.

i kind of figured out how to do it with the wrap but that moreso could give the illusion that its unrolling but the only way i could figure out how to do it that way was to use 2 pieces and animate the position of them so it looks like the roll is gettin smaller and the flat carpet is gettin longer.. but how could i do that with it actually unrolling to a flat surface with only one object.,. so it really is unrolling not just looking like it could be?
    thanks for the tip though
