I am using an external monitor through a Matrox MXO2 mini. When watching on the external monitor having the time line play on the computer FCP canvas at the same time is distracting. Is there a way to turn off the canvas so I only see the external monitor?

Maybe shrink it down to 12% or something to minimize the picture.

Drag it off-screen or send it to the dock by hitting the “-” button on the upper left of the canvas window.

I think if you go to:

Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings > A/V Devices and uncheck the “Mirror on Desktop” option, video will pay out to your MXO2 mini and not play on your computer screen.

I’m not positive though. I’m not at a computer right now that has a reference monitor, so i can’t test for myself

You could go to the Window menu in the toolbar and make sure Canvas is unchecked. Though I can’t be sure that this won’t prevent the external video from playing.
