  • How to trigger “Profiling for RT Extreme” in FCP 5?

Posted by Dave Mac on February 10, 2006 at 6:49 pm

I notice that whenever I update the drivers for my Decklink card, the next time I start up FCP it displays the “Profiling for RT Extreme” in the startup dialog window.

Does anyone know exactly what triggers this? I would like to know, if possible, a little more detail than “trash all FCP-related preferences,” which isn’t needed. I’d appreciate any insights.

Part of the reason I ask is that I will be adding a new RAID to my hardware setup and I would like to be able to “reset” FCP so that it creates a “new” profile of everything (for better performance). This, of course, presumes that part of the profiling is a test of one’s disk system(s). Though, I wonder if the system would use a new RAID setup in its profiling process if it wasn’t already configured to be the FCP scratch disk (which it wouldn’t, initially). Thanks.

I’m pretty sure all you’re seeing is FCP’s system prefs updating to reflect your graphics card and CPU/RAM configurations. FCP doesn’t really care about your drives. If the data is there, RT will process it. If it’s not, it won’t.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
