I want to replace audio from the onboard mic with audio from a wireless mic recorded to a MicroTrak 24/96 (Flash recorder),
before I start laying video on the timeline. In other words,
sync up the new audio and replace the 2 original audio tracks.
Where is this done in Final Cut, or is it better done in
    Soundtrack?

Now you know what clapperboards are for! A simple handclap on camera at the start of the interview would save you a minute or two here.

Just drop the audio into the timeline in a suitable format, and then drop the video in above. Drag the video back and forward until it’s in sync. You’re done. You may only have a problem if the audio sample rates are different, which could cause the sync to drift.

    Enjoy!

thanks for the response. i do know how to sync audio and video
on the timeline, but I have several projects to cut from the
master footage, so I want to do this BEFORE I drop them on the
timeline and start cutting. I want to overwrite the audio on the master clip. How do I do that without dropping on the timeline?

Just search for the term “Merge Clips” in your FCP help.

This is entirely what that function is for. I could describe it here, but I would basically be re-typing the manual.
