How to spread color?
Hello,
I’ve been tinkering with a few ideas, but I’m trying to figure out the best way to have a background color spread across the screen, sort of like a progressive revelation. It does not necessarily need animation, just a spread, like a watercolor. Is there a better way than just having a tonne of masks? Like an effect or something?

As I understand what you are asking I believe that you can apply the Generate -> Ramp effect to a solid then apply Color Correction -> colorama and tweak the output color cycle (and various other settings) to get your desired effect..
There’s a bunch of other ways to go about this as well.. Just depends on more specifically what you want..

You wouldn’t need a lot of irregular masks, maybe 1 per second …?
You could also use the Gradient Wipe effect, with the gradient being a distorted circular Ramp of some kind. Don’t forget to precompose the layer you use as the Gradient.

Transition > Gradient Wipe would by my suggestion as well. You can use a big blurry blob of Fractal Noise to get some pretty random blotchy watercolor reveals (I’m pretty sure Andrew Kramer did something like this for his “Ink Bleeds” mattes in his Riot Gear package, but you can do it for freeeeee!).
