How to smooth out skin on just the neck, not the face.
Posted by Nigel Cooper on May 5, 2026 at 4:04 pmHow do I smooth out skin on just the neck, not the face. It’s an interview, medium shot from the waist up and the elderly lady wants the skin smoothing out on only her neck, not her face.
She moves slightly from side to side a little while taking, but not too much movement.
I can’t figure out how how to even start going about this.

There are a ton of *area isolation* tutorials available. You will probably use a roto-mask. In your case you will probably have to do an X-Y translation track, possibly incorporating a bit of rotation. In any case, if you are using a Full (paid, not free) license of Resolve, a blur, mist, or skin FX plugin (which is a more selective , face-tracking blur which doesn’t need its own mask) applied inside the roto will get you where you want to go.

Adding to Joseph’s excellent comments, it might be worth you looking up Davinci v21 retouching, there is new tools currently in beta.
All the Best

May 5, 2026 at 5:09 pmJoseph, thanks for this, but that went right over my head. I’m no expert, can just cut up clips and export, that’s about it. Anybody point me to a YouTube tutorial? I’ve searched all over YouTube, but all I can find is ‘skin smoothing for face’ videos, nothing that does neck or tracks movement of neck at the same time.

Without seeing the actual shot, it is near impossible to give advice for your specific issue.
The short version is that you need to isolate (add a mask) to the area that you want to change.
Magic Mask is a good place to start. If you search for “Davinci magic mask neck”, you will get different results.
But Mr Alex Tech has this video that might answer your request:
https://youtu.be/UB7mOG9eNxg?si=-tpjtqsVwsdfSyg9After sorting out the mask, it becomes a question of how you want to “smooth” the skin.
Hope that this helps?
