Trying to simulate multiple spotlights shining on a wall where each spotlight has a shaped colored gel on it. ie- a red star or yellow moon…I know i can sort of fake it with masks and some other tricks, but I was hoping there is a way to set up something that would behave like a light when you animated it.

I thought I found the answer in the cc spotlight effect, but I can’t figure out how to use the gel option to get the look I want.It just shows the spotlight cut off in a weird way which doesn’t seem to correlate to the masked solid I am using as a gel layer.

pre-comp you mask layer, choosing move all atributes. cc spotlight wants the gel to be a single layer with transarency, so layers with masks or track mattes need to be pre-comp’ed.

i should have mentioned, pre-comp each ‘gel’ individually…

The coolest way to do this is to use a layer as a gobo for a light in a 3D project. That way the light casts accurate shadows and elongates realistically if it is moved.
